NC Rev. Wright Anti-Obama Ads Could Be A Good Thing

At first I was outraged by the anti-Obama Ads featuring the usual snippets of Rev. Wright's rantings.  As an Obama supporter I have been horrified of how the "guilt by association" meme has played out.

But, as has been pointed out by Sen. Clinton, these are issues which will be used against Obama in the GE.

If the cretins who run the NC Repugs continue to broadcast this trashy Ad, and Sen. Obama keeps his lead in the state, that will be a good indication that he will withstand similar attacks in September and August.   If on the other hand Hilary wins or comes close in NC, that is a factor we must seriously take notice of.

So, I say, "bring it on NC Repug vermin!"    Lets see how this plays itself out.

As an aside, I am amazed that no one has played the "guilt by association" game involving Willian Ayers back at Hannity and Company.   Why is no one calling Sen. McCain a racist because of his occaisional associaton with the likes of the late Sen. Strom Thurmond, an avowed segregationist.

Of course the response to this might be "well, Thurmond moderated his views on race.  He stopped his segregationist rhethoric almost 40 years ago."   To which one might respond "as did Ayers end his terrorist activities."

JUST A THOUGHT.....

What has happened to my beloved MYDD and DailyKos?

This will be short.  No need to state and restate the obvious.  For quite a few years I have relied on MyDD and DailyKos for information and inspiration.  While I am an Obama supporter (switched from Edwards when he dropped out) I greatly admire Hillary Clinton and will talk over hot coals to vote for her if she is the nominee.

In any event, I am shocked and dismayed to see MyDD become the Hillary Channel and DailyKos devolve into the ObamaNetwork.   Is this really necesary?   Are the differences between these candidates truly that stark and dramatic?  I, for one, think NOT.

Imus Under Fire: Why Not Hannity?

Those of us who torture ourselves by listening to the Sean Hannity Show from time to time ("monitoring" might be a better word) are familiar with this far right dirtbag's anti-hispanic ramblings and "jokes" under the guise of opposing illegal immigration.  Geraldo's recent confrontation with Hannity on his show was a great start.  With the public's awareness of racism on the airwaves having been raised by the Imus controversy, perhaps now is the time to up the ante, and bring attention to Hannity for the vicious bullying racist nutjob that he is.

Early Indication Public Negative on Miers

The current AOL online poll is very negative on Harriet Miers.  I realize the poll is unscientific, but I have followed the AOL polls for the past 6 or 7 years and have found them to be tilted slightly to the Republican side, by a factor of about 5% to 10%.  In other words, if, for example, the CNN poll found the public divided 50-50 on Bush/Gore, the AOL online poll would probably be Bush 53% Gore 47%.  Having said that, the public reaction to Miers is quite interesting.  Here are the questions:

How would you rate Harriet Miers as a Supreme Court pick?

Poor 54%
Excellent 18%
Fair 15%
Good 13%

How important is prior judicial experience for a Supreme Court justice?

Very 60%
Somewhat 24%
Not at all 15%

Total Votes: 104,328

I am curious to see how this plays out over the next few days.

Rhenquist Picked The Right Time to Die

There is little, perhaps nothing, that Rhenquist did as a Supreme Court Justice that merits praise.  The exception might be the moment he chose to die.  With Bush's popularity in a free fall and the catastrophe in Louisiana and Mississippi (excerbated by Bush's incompetence), it may become evident that the people of our nation have no current appetite for a political brawl brought on by Bush trying to elevate neo-fascists Thomas or Scalia to the Chief Justice position, or the potential appointment of an extremist like Michael Luttig.  Democratic Senators should publicly serve notice on the Bushies that for the good of the country he must appoint an O'Connor type conservative, and spare the nation another heated political battle.  Time to get out the word.

Toward a National Campaign in 2006

Just returned from a wonderful trip to Maine and Nova Scotia.  As I drove around the State of Maine, my mind wandered from the seascapes to the 2006 Senate races. It occured to me that the people of that very independant state would probably never vote Sens. Snowe and Collins out of office on their own records.  But that neither could the likes of Trent Lott or Wm Frist (or any of their radical right Senate cronies) be elected by a New England constituency.  This is far from an original thought, but perhaps we can drive home the point in a Maine, Rhode Island or NJ Senate or House race that it is not just Olympia Snowe who is being voted into or out of office, but the national neofascists like Frist, Santorum and others like them or worse.  Why not make the Republican leadership the top issue in Northern Senate and Congressional contests?  I think its doable, but repetition is the key.  The Repugs have being using the same approach against us in the South for decades.  Turnabout is fair play.

Do we have solid stats for daily deaths due to starvation and poverty-related disease.

No that we see how concerned the Right is about saving lives, it would be a good time to push for more aid to the poor and starving in Africa and other areas of the planet.  Are there reliable statistics which show how many men, women and children die each day due to starvation and poverty related diseases?  We need to trumpet the fact that while Terri Shaivo lay dying and the Right was out protecting her life, perhaps as many as 100,000(?) preventable deaths occured around the world.

Ohio voting machine scandal

Due to pressures of work (what a cop-out!)I have been largely absent from the beloved Mydd blog for the past couple of months.  I am wondering if I might have missed information posted about the voting machine scandal in Ohio.  Specifically, I am wondering if any person of organization has ever quantified the waiting time to use a voting machine in Dem areas vs. the Repug areas.  Can anyone help me on this???
